Program Coordinator
Public Health Solutions, one of the largest independent not-for-profit organizations in New York City, provides an array of public health services to a broad spectrum of the City's population. Our clients include women, children and HIV patients. Programs range from bioterrorism preparedness, women's health services and family planning, to medical and health service coordination. We also conduct a wide variety of public health research projects.

We are presently recruiting for one of our Projects - the New York State Community Partnership Grant, under the direction of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Bureau of Tobacco Control.
The purpose of the Partnership Grant is to create borough-level community coalitions to deliver effective, evidence-based tobacco control and policy advocacy in each of New York City's five boroughs. Each partnership is designed to educate, advocate and seek collaboration on emerging tobacco control issues and policy change.
Areas of action will include the promotion of smoke-free outdoor areas, reduction of tobacco sales and advertising at point of sales, reduction of community acceptance of tobacco industry sponsorship, promotion of smoke-free housing, cessation resources and building a community coalition to support initiatives in these areas.
The Borough Coordinator will assist the Borough Manager to design and execute the achievement of all community tobacco control deliverables.
The position requires an energetic, hands-on individual who has a talent for engaging and educating community-based organizations, individuals and local decision-makers for social change. The ideal candidate is extremely organized and able to efficiently execute simultaneously occurring tobacco control interventions and events, recruiting strategic community partners for maximum positive outcome. Must be computer literate, excellent communicator; demonstrate community mobilization capacity and ability to create high impact educational materials. Bilingual a plus. Knowledge of local decision-makers, community organizations and local press also a plus.

A Bachelors's degree in public health, education, public policy, communications, social marketing or equivalent. Must have minimum 2 years experience in community education and/or mobilization. Experience in tobacco control preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Must have a demonstrated ability to motivate populations toward positive change.
