Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE

Participates with nursing team in providing quality, individualized care. All job duties are performed in a manner that demonstrates the KGH values of caring, respect and professional excellence toward patients, families, visitors, coworkers, physicians and volunteers.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

1. Education: Completion of an approved Certified Nursing Assistant program.

2. Certification: Must be Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Alaska.

3. Experience: Commensurate with educational preparation, demonstrates knowledge of and ability to apply age-specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient's needs for nursing care. The ability to work in a fast paced, high volume environment is required.

4. Interpersonal: Must have cooperative working skills, interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of patients, families and staff. Must be well-organized, flexible and able to function independently. The ability to demonstrate a courteous, caring and understanding attitude toward patients, families, visitors, coworkers, physicians and volunteers is required.

5. Physical: Must have ability to: tolerate long periods of sitting, walking or standing; communicate verbally with individuals in person or on the telephone; read and write text; solve complex problems; respond quickly to department or hospital emergencies.

Must also be able to: lift equipment and supplies weighing between 25 and 50 pounds; independently push and pull beds or equipment on wheels weighing up to 500 pounds to other areas of the hospital on occasional basis; independently move, lift and position patients weighing up to 200 pounds and assist others in moving, lifting and positioning patients weighing over 200 pounds (using judgment appropriate to patient's condition regarding need for assistance); bend and stoop frequently; hear and interpret stethoscope sounds; use senses (vision, hearing, smell, touch) to recognize changes in patient's condition; hear codes and patient calls/alarms.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Administers patient care with excellence and genuine kindness and respect towards patient. Cares for a group of patients daily, giving attention to individualized and age-specific needs of patients.

2. Demonstrates the ability to take and record accurate vital signs, provide nutritional assistance as directed, respond to patient hygiene needs according to patient's plan of care, demonstrates observation skills and communication to the appropriate staff member, etc.

3. Assists with patient admission and discharge demonstrating a courteous, caring, understanding attitude toward patients and families.
