JOURNALS ASSOCIATE PRODUCTION COORDINATOR, MIT Press, to assume an entry-level position with primary responsibility for maintaining the editorial and production flow for four to six academic journals with content ranging from economics to performance studies and architecture to cognitive science. Production responsibilities include generating and updating production schedules in a FileMaker Pro database; trafficking manuscripts, page proofs, and art MSS. to and from freelancers, editors, and vendors; monitoring copyediting, proofreading, and composition; resolving editorial, typesetting, and printing queries and problems; preparing print specifications and assembling journal components for printing; reviewing virtual bluelines, F&Gs, and advances; and preparing specs for metadata conversion, reviewing content in the staging area, pushing content to the live site, and posting supplemental files. Trafficking also includes coordinating internally with the marketing, circulation, and billing departments. Will work with the production manager and then--with increasing independence--on multiple projects that will grow in number and complexity with coordinator's skills and confidence.

The production department places a strong emphasis on cross-training as a team- and efficiency-building tool. The success of the department depends on strong working relationships among its members.

REQUIREMENTS: strong problem-solving skills; ability to work on multiple projects under pressure of deadlines; and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and FileMaker Pro. Must bring well-honed oral and written communication skills to the task of building and managing relationships with journal editors and composition, print, and freelance vendors. Must be able to work cooperatively and know when to ask for help. Some experience with Photoshop a plus. College degree preferred. MIT-00006651-4
