TECHNICAL WRITER/EDITOR, Lincoln Laboratory, Lexington, MA, to help produce the Lincoln Laboratory Journal and perform a variety of other writing/editing tasks. Core editing activities will include responsibility for the full range of production functions necessary to take original technical manuscripts through the editorial, design, and layout stages of a four-color print publication. Will seek out story ideas within the laboratory's technical community for various publications and the external web site; edit Lincoln technical books and serve as production manager; write brief news pieces for the external web; assist with proofreading other Communications Office publications and with other projects in the office; and occasionally work with external news contacts. Other core editorial responsibilities will include assuming an integral role in the production of other publications and projects and participation in community outreach initiatives and events.

REQUIREMENTS: a bachelor's degree (master's a plus) in science (preferably engineering or physics), English, or technical communications; a minimum of six years' experience in technical publications; ability to create and maintain internal and external professional contacts to foster communications projects and outreach opportunities; excellent interpersonal skills; profound attention to detail; and outstanding verbal communication skills. Must have extensive experience in technical publications as an editor/technical writer, solid understanding of science and engineering, and working knowledge of the tools of modern publishing. Familiarity with college-level mathematics, science, and engineering important. Direct work experience using InDesign, Illustrator, MathType, and Photoshop highly desired. Should have experience with educational outreach and working with outside agencies. Job #1329
