POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Media Arts and Sciences, to help engineer new molecules for controlling and reading out cellular functions. Problems with the brain and nervous system cause suffering for billions of people around the world, robbing them of their ability to move, remember, and feel. The Neuroengineering and Neuromedia Lab develops cutting-edge brain interfaces for systematically confronting these disorders by directly correcting aberrant neural activity in the brain. This interdisciplinary effort is now poised to expand as we develop next-generation neural interfaces for confronting intractable brain disorders. We are searching for a postdoctoral associate interested in the molecular engineering of new optical sensitizers for controlling specific neuronal functions.

REQUIREMENTS: a Ph.D. in an interdisciplinary field such as molecular biology, virology, or biological engineering; and one to three years of successful molecular biology, cloning, virology, and protein or molecular engineering experience in an academic or industrial neuroscience research setting. Seek a quick learner who is also willing to teach this information to highly-motivated lab members. Must be able to juggle the dynamic events that occur when participating in an exciting, interdisciplinary environment. Should be independent, self-motivated, yet able to work as part of a tightly-knit team. Demonstrated background or interest in neuroscience or neuroengineering a plus. MIT-00005711
