PSI's reproductive health program is working to improve access to long and short-term family planning methods, post abortion care, prevention and treatment of post-partum hemorrhage, micronutrients for pregnant women, clean delivery, cervical cancer screening, and antenatal and postnatal care, and to reduce unsafe abortion and female genital mutilation. These activities are integrated with HIV and STD prevention services where appropriate and feasible.
The Director, Reproductive Health, will lead a global program providing technical assistance in project design and funding, implementation, research and monitoring and evaluation, knowledge management, quality assurance, training, and strategic support with the aim of increasing PSI's disability-adjusted life years averted from reproductive health products, services and behavior change campaigns at approximately 20 percent per year.
The Director is based in Washington, D.C., and reports to the Chief Technical Officer. Approximately 30% international travel is required.
Responsibilities:
Develop, fund and implement a departmental strategic plan
Satisfy internal stakeholders, particularly country and regional programs, New Business Development, HIV & TB, Research and Metrics, Capacity Building, and Social Marketing Departments, and internal working groups in services marketing
Direct the Women's Health Project
Manage a team of eight including three technical advisors and one principal investigator
Manage within the context of matrix management, procurement and contract staff, and regionally-based technical advisors
Increase funds for reproductive health interventions
Document and disseminate evidence of the effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, and equity of PSI reproductive health interventions
Document and disseminate lessons learned, identify best practices, and lead PSI's learning in reproductive health
Develop and manage partnerships with external organizations, including donors, policy making, scientific and implementing agencies
Influence the context in which PSI works through efforts at relevant conferences, workshops, and policy-oriented forums using appropriate media
Foster innovation in reproductive health across PSI
Assure reproductive health services quality
Experience:
A Master's degree or higher in public health, business administration, international development or a related degree is required
At least 10 years' experience designing and implementing and or monitoring and evaluating large, complex reproductive health projects in/for developing countries, of which at least five years has been spent addressing the private health sector
A record of achievement in leadership and management
Effective English oral and written communications skills
Ability to interact professionally in a second language is preferred
At least four years' experience working in a developing country is highly preferred
