We were founded in 1957 under the name Medical and Health Research Association of New York City to enable the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene and other organizations to conduct health research to inform their work. Today, as Public Health Solutions, we use research wherever we can to help illuminate critical public health issues and to design, implement and assess effective methods for preventing disease and improving health in New York City and beyond.
Job Description & Experience:
Regional Logistics Planner
Join a world-class emergency management team that is strengthening regional resilience to disasters.
The US Department of Homeland Security is funding a national initiative to enhance catastrophic preparedness in high-risk areas. NYC's Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is coordinating this initiative on behalf of the Regional Catastrophic Planning Team (RCPT), which represents cities, counties and states in the Greater NYC metropolitan area. The RCPT's mission is to use joint planning efforts to build a robust regional infrastructure to support residents and visitors who would be affected by a catastrophic event. The RCPT has partnered with Public Health Solutions to administer the grant.
The Regional Catastrophic Planning Team (RCPT), a national initiative funded by The US Department of Homeland Security to enhance catastrophic preparedness in high-risk areas, is currently seeking (2) Regional Logistics Planners. Planners will work as part of a larger Regional Logistics Team that focuses on logistics planning, resource management, information sharing and training within the region. Each Planner will be assigned to two of the following four program areas:
- Volunteer and Donations Management
- Credentialing
- Website development
- Conference planning
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on best practices and lessons learned from regional partners.
- Write comprehensive emergency response plans.
- Develop relationships with regional partners and build planning teams.
- Manage execution and delivery of contract work on time and within budget.
- Manage development of website and/or annual conference.
- Additional responsibilities as required.
Qualification Requirements:
1. Master's degree from an accredited college in Emergency Management, Urban Planning, Engineering, Public Administration, Public Health, Political Science, or related field and one (1) year of professional experience in one of the disciplines noted above or
2. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in Emergency Management, Urban Planning, Engineering, Public Administration, Public Health, Political Science, or related field and at least two (2) years of professional experience in one or a combination of specializations related to the above goals.
Qualifications:
- Exceptional written skills (published papers or experience with technical writing a plus).
- Demonstrated public speaking and group facilitation skills.
- Superior interpersonal skills.
- Experience leading or working as part of a large scale multi-jurisdictional or multi-departmental planning effort.
- Familiarity with the Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) a plus.
- Knowledge of at least two of the four program areas listed in the Job Description.
- Strong MS Office skills, including familiarity with MS Visio and MS Project.
The ideal candidate will have an interest in public service, the ability to complete complex projects on deadline, manage multiple projects in a fast-paced work environment, experience conducting research and using research reporting tools and databases. A background in emergency management, human services, logistics, information technology or a combination of these areas is preferable. The selected candidate will have an eagerness to work for an emergency management initiative in which regional, state and federal agencies will partner to create an operational logistics plan to provide life sustaining resources.
Salary Range: Commensurate with Experience
