The Content and Information Coordinator supports staffers in Pearson Education's U.S. Higher Ed Science division working with the company's content management and information management systems. The Coordinator serves as power user, point person, trainer/staff support, and liaison for Pearson-proprietary systems such as PCS, Content Management and Enterprise-level systems such as WriteRAP, Business Objects and Documentum. He/she is based in San Francisco and will provide support to Science production and editorial users based in San Francisco, Upper Saddle River NJ, as well as other remote/offsite employees and users associated with Science.
Dollar responsibilities (budget and/or revenue):
Makes recommendations affecting budget but no direct dollar responsibility.
Content Management:
30% Serve as power user supporting SF and USR Science teams' use of content management systems/tools. Work with production and editorial product teams to advise on project level content management system and tool use, including assessing and identifying gaps in team/individual comfort and proficiency and making recommendations for resolution. Provide/augment CMS user support to production and editorial team, authors, and Science freelancers, including directing users to appropriate software support and training resources, as necessary.
10% In role of Science content management power user, serve as point person for collecting and identifying system/tool fixes and enhancements, and liaise with other power users/CMS Stakeholders to communicate Science needs and collaborate on testing/implementation of approved fixes/enhancements.
10% Serve as Science liaison with regard to communicating and implementation of best practices in use of Pearson content management systems. Support Content+ approach to integrating preparation of content for print, media, and custom delivery; and support new product model initiatives.
10% Support/augment production staff and across Science to ensure integrity and completeness of archival files in post-production. Work with editorial and production teams to return content to authors in approved format for future product development.
Information Management:
20% Serve as power user supporting SF and USR Science teams' use of information management systems/tools (i.e. PCS and Business Objects). Provide training/support to new and current staff on PCS system use. Work with Science managers/director to develop reporting via Business Objects, that both supports timely delivery of business metrics, and ensures system use compliance and system data integrity.
10% In role of Science information management systems power user, serve as point person for collecting and identifying system/tool fixes and enhancements, and liaise with other power users/PSC Stakeholders/PT to communicate Science needs and collaborate on testing/implementation of approved fixes/enhancements
10% Serve as software, hardware, and systems request point person for USR and SF Science production. Work with Production Director and Managers to ensure hardware, software, and system configuration parity and currency for Science across sites, vet all software and hardware requests prior to release for Manager/Business Manager approval. Assist with periodic inventory requests, investigate and recommend solutions, upon management request.
This position requires the individual to work independently, communicate clearly both verbally and in writing, work with diverse teams both within Science and across the HE organization, and maintain detailed database records.
Formal education or equivalent:
College degree or equivalent experience in publishing environment (both print and non-print).
Skills:
The ideal candidate will have: Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite for PC and Mac platforms; experience working with databases such as FileMaker and/or Microsoft Access, familiarity with Quark XPress, Adobe Creative Suite; LaTeX is also desirable but not required; basic understanding of XML workflows; and basic familiarity with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Other:
2-3 years experience prior publishing desirable. Familiarity with multi-channel publishing workflows a plus.
