Position Summary
This position is responsible for managing all coal supply and coal transportation for PPLs generating assets in the United States. It also includes the acquisition of other generation related solid fuels and supplements as required, such as, synfuel, petroleum coke, and limestone. The primary purpose of this position is to manage the strategy development, coal procurement, transportation, contract preparation, negotiation and administration, railcar maintenance, inventory control, quality control and coal sampling and analysis. This position assures that all facets of purchase and delivery of coal and limestone are coordinated with power plant operating requirements.

Primary Responsibilities
1. Plan, develop, negotiate, and transact long-term and short-term coal agreements.
2. Develop and implement PPLs coal supply strategy to ensure a reliable and cost effective supply for PPLs generation assets.
3. Direct the transportation activity associated with delivering all coal to the power plants including the maintenance of PPL owned railcars.
4. Direct and coordinate all phases of the coal procurement activities (spot market, short-term contracts, and long-term contracts) and of contract administration to minimize the cost of coal to PPL.
5. Assist in the optimization of the generation assets by developing strategies designed to add incremented value to
the portfolio.
6. Direct the quality control activities to sample, test and report coal quality to assure the proper coal is being delivered to the power plants.
7. Direct the risk management functions involved in monitoring, measuring and hedging all activities including developing procedures to assure that the proper payment and accounting is applied to all coal received at the power plants.
8. Direct purchases and coordinate communication to assure optimum inventory levels of each type of coal at each power plant.
9. Direct the activities of subordinates in establishing and developing relationships with counterparties in the coal and
railroad industry.
10. Conduct all duties and responsibilities outlined above for limestone requirements for scrubbers and for SCR operation.

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates must meet the basic qualifications to receive consideration.

Basic Qualifications
1. BS degree in Engineering or other technical and business-related background.
2. Ten or more years of experience in the coal and power generation industry.
3. Extensive knowledge of the technical and non-technical aspects of coal and the mining industry such as mining techniques, mineral preparation, quality characteristics, coal companies, company activity and philosophy, product
differentiation, etc.
4. In-depth knowledge of the transportation industry, legal and regulatory issues, environmental issues as well as
coal sampling and analysis techniques.
5. Knowledge of the limestone industry.

Preferred Qualifications
1. Advanced graduate degree desired.
2. Knowledge of power plant requirements and operations.
3. Strong business skills in economic analysis, contract development and negotiation skills.
4. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
5. Working knowledge of financial trading.
6. Ability to effectively motivate employees having a wide diversity of skills and competencies to work as a team to
achieve company goals.
7. Ability to make accurate and concise reports to upper management.
8. Represent the company effectively when meeting the public.
