How do I submit a résumé?

Each job posting has a button at the bottom that links you to our online application form, which includes a space for your résumé. Once you submit your résumé, it will become part of our résumé database.

Submitting your résumé more than once will not increase your chances of being contacted. We will contact you if your skills and qualifications match a position we are trying to fill.

The only time you should submit a new résumé is if you have updated your résumé. We will consider résumés that are submitted in response to specific open positions. We will not accept unsolicited résumés for nonspecific positions, but we invite you to bookmark this page to keep abreast of future opportunities.

If I do not have a résumé, may I fill out an application?

If you do not have a résumé, you may enter your employment history into the online application form. It will be entered into our résumé database just as a résumé would. We will contact you if your skills and qualifications match a position we are trying to fill.

May I send my résumé by fax or mail?

Annually we receive thousands of résumés and letters expressing interest in employment with National Geographic. Paper résumés and applications take much longer to enter into our database; therefore, you may miss your window of opportunity due to a lengthier processing time.

Résumés and applications received via our online application form reach our database almost instantaneously.

Why am I prompted to fill out additional information when I apply for some jobs but not for others?

If we have additional requirements for a specific position or need additional information from you, we will include these screening questions at the end of the résumé submittal page. These questions help us to determine if you are a good match for the position for which you are applying.

Even if we determine that your qualifications and skills are not a match for the position for which you are applying, your résumé will still be entered into our searchable database of résumés and may be matched to another position at a later time.

May I submit a cover letter, addressed to a specific individual, with my résumé?

All résumés are received in a central database and sorted by job and skill set. It is not required that you submit a cover letter, however, you may do so by pasting it in the résumé text field after the text of your résumé.

How do I know if you have received my résumé via online application form?

Once you have submitted your résumé, a pop-up window will appear with a message thanking you for your submission. This message is your confirmation that we have received your résumé.

If a problem occurs during the transmission of your résumé, a pop-up window will appear with an error message and the reason for the problem. You will be asked to resubmit your résumé at that time.

If I submitted my résumé through the online application form, may I also mail it just to make sure you receive it?

If you received the confirmation pop-up window thanking you for your résumé submission, you can be sure we received your résumé.

Why did I receive an error message when I tried to submit my résumé?

Your computer system may not be compatible with our online application system. Here are the system requirements:
  • Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, or Windows 2000 operating system
  • 12 MB of memory
  • A 28.8 dial up or corporate LAN connection to the Internet
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0+
  • Netscape® Navigator 4.08+
  • Netscape® Communicator 4.78+
  • Mozilla 1.0
  • Opera 6.0
If you are not running on one of these supported platforms or browsers, you will need to upgrade your browser then revisit our site to apply online.

Will I be notified if the job has been filled or if I make it to the next step in the application process?

If your skills and qualifications match what we are looking for, a representative from National Geographic will contact you. We will not contact you if another applicant is selected for the position for which you have applied.

Positions remain on our Web site until they are filled.

How long are job postings generally on the Web site? Are they posted for a specific amount of time or until the job is filled?

A position remains on our Web site until it is filled.
